I have mixed emotions about buying this book. Because it’s short. Really, if you just read the free preview, you’ve already gotten about half of the hilarious hijinks that they’re trying to get you to pay actual money for. So that’s disappointing. Plus, you can follow Samantha Irby on social media- or read her blog bitchesgottaeat.com (Am I allowed to say bitchesgottaeat in an Amazon review?) and get all kinds of gold like this for free. After the disappointment subsides, though, you get the warm glow. I realized that even though I didn’t successfully game the system, I did manage to give an electronic pittance to an absolutely hilarious (and sometimes insightful?) author who, through her work, has made my life better. Writersgottaeat. So I’m glad that Sam might get an extra Fig Newton or two thanks to my patronage. Also, the back half of book is good enough that it actually is worth the 99 cents on its own. Believe it. And now that I have it on my Kindle, I can howl at Sam’s writing anytime I want, even if I don’t have wifi. Irby’s Meaty was a great, great book. The next one, with the angry kitten on the cover is coming out later this year and will probably be excellent, too. This is a nice little snack in between. So you can buy a pack of Orbit or this e-book. Don’t be dumb.
